Hundreds line up early for MAC’s Selena makeup line in Inland Empire

Over two hundred people line up outside of Macy’s department store to purchase the new MAC Selena make-up line on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in San Bernardino, Ca.

SAN BERNARDINO >> After the much-anticipatedSelena MAC makeup collection sold out online within a day, hundreds of fans stood in line for hours for a chance to buy the cosmetics line celebrating the late singer.
“I tried to buy it online (Saturday) but the website kept crashing because so many people were trying to buy it,” said Darlene Macias of Bloomington on Thursday morning as she and about 200 others stood in line outside the Macy’s store at Inland Center Mall in San Bernardino.
The collection, made up of lipsticks that mimic Selena’s signature red tint, eyeshadows, blush, mascara, liquid eyeliner and brushes, were inspired by the late pop icon Selena Quintanilla.

A line of people waiting to see and buy the new Selena MAC cosmetics snakes around the Macy’s building early Thursday at Inland Center in San Bernardino.

Other Macy’s stores saw similar numbers of fans waiting in long lines for the opportunity to buy the makeup line.
As of 1 p.m., there were still a few collection items available at the Macy’s at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga and there were still about 100 people in line hoping to be lucky enough to snatch up a lipstick, eyeshadow or blush.
By noon, the MAC counter inside the Nordstrom at Montclair Plaza had already sold out. Not too far away, at the MAC store inside the mall, a line of at least 70 people snaked out and around the atrium.
Like many fans, Macias — initially discouraged she couldn’t snag the “Queen of Tejano” line — was happy to learn MAC would be releasing the limited edition collection at makeup counters Thursday.
Macias arrived at the San Bernardino mall around 5 a.m. but said there were already a handful of people in line ahead of her.
Kristie Macias, no relation to Darlene Macias, braved the chilly October morning to be the first in line.
“I got here around 3:50 this morning,” she said with a smile, bundled up in a thick sweater. “It’s worth it because it’s her. It’s Selena.”
That sentiment was echoed by several fans, many of whom weren’t even born when Selena was performing.
“She died the year before I was born, but you still feel something for her,” said Jessica Garcia, 20, of Highland.
On March 31, 1995, Selena was shot and killed by the manager of her fan club at a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was 23.
